Sainamaina

Located about 12 km. west from Butwal and to North from Banakatti, Sainamaina as an open museum is very famous and fascinating resort from historical archaeological culture and natural points of view. Among the different Gramas villages of Shakya King, it was in the samgrama site. An Indian queen (Begam) because of the revolution in her kingdom came to this area with her soldiers and porters (‘Sena’ and Mena’) and finally this area came to be known as Saina Maina. It is an exquisite treasure trove of ancient ruins and antiquities: statues of dancing saints, ruins of palace, well etc. The statue of Buddha (Jogidanda) was very significant different ruins of having the values of classical art are scattered here and there. This famous archaeological site is being occupied by homeless and landless people. Some of the antiquities of this site are seen thrown around the Lumbini museum.


Jitgadhi

Jitgadhi a fortress during Angol Nepal war, Narayan temple built by (1864 B.S.) Hanuman temple and Shivalaya of Hanumagngadhi, Jalabinayak Mehadev temple, Siddababa temple, Nuwakot etc. are famous centres of attraction in Butwal.

Economy

The economy of Butwal town is mainly centered around education, trade and transportation. Butwal has always been a major trading centre for the hill people from nearby villages, as is evident from the establishment of Batauli Bazar in the foot of the hills in old Butwal. The main trading centre of Butwal is near Traffic Chowk. Shops selling Chinese and Indian items are in vogue. Butwal also boasts of number of small and medium scale industries specializing in woodwork, Ironsheet, Metalware and Aluminium sheet etc.

There are other small industry also.There are many Rice maills also..some of them are Siddababa Rice Mill, Sita rice mill, etc. People of butwal and people of next cities like Narayanghat,Pokhara, Kathmandu buy the products of these small industry.

Population

The population of Butwal in 2001 was 175,384.[3]. Most of the population consists of Pahadi people who have migrated from nearby villages in the hills, students, and ex-Gurkha soldiers who are commonly called Lahure (Nepali: लाहुरे). There are significant number of Terai population as well.

Archeological Significance

Archaeologist Dr. Munthe and a group of American archaeologists excavated 10.1 million years old dental ruins of Ramapithekas human tribe on the bank of the Tinau (Tilottama) River. Butwal has also been proved to be a significant site for the study of prehistoric age. Butwal is also the place where first ancient human (Rama-pithacus) bone was found in early 1981 A.D.

Entymology

The name Butwal is derived from the famous Batauli Bazar which is situated in the old Butwal very near to the hills.It is also said that the East India Company were defeated in this town.Nepalese soldiers used the hills around this town to protect themselves and attack on their enemy.The East India Company soldiers returned saying"There is nothing but wall.So this 'but wall' later on transformed to become Butwal.

Fly from Kathmandu to Bhairahawa and then drive from Bhairahawa to Butwal, or drive all the way to Pokhara to Butwal or from Narayanghat to Butwal. Many tourists chose to visit Butwal after visiting Lumbini, the Birth Place of Lord Buddha.Butwal heartly welcomes to all visitors.

Butwal lies in the western development region.It is one of the big city of Nepal and naturally rich.The climate of Butwal is hot temper.During summer temperature of the Butwal goes up to40-43 degree as in winter it falls to 20-30 degrees.There is no high pollution in butwal.

BUTWAL "THE OLD CITY"

The originate of this Butwal Municipality is Butwal Bazaar which now called is (Purano Butauli Bazaar). Old Butwal bazaar lies on the other bank of Tinau River. We can find Ganesh mandir .In Hinduism people worship the Ganesh before they prey other god and goddess. Passing narrow streets and small houses there we come to the Buddhist Monastery Padma Chaitya Vihar. The legend says that this monastery was built by two traders from Kathmandu 100 years ago. On the auspicious day of Buddha Jayanti holy monks from Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, India and many other countries visit this Vihar to deliver their holy messages. Then we come underneath to the east and west high way. There we find Masjid (Mosque) near that bridge where the Muslim regime worships for their Allah.

SAHASHRA DHARA

On the bank of Tinau river and the north from Butwal there lies Sahashradhara. There is a legend that in an ancient time milk used to flow down from numerous sprouts here. On the occasions like Maghe Sankranti, Maghe Aunsi and eclipse day a number of devotees come here to have holy bath. It is also a beautiful place for picnic and short repose.

Industrial Butwal

Nepal is small country as well as under developing country.There are many factors that helps to develop a country where industries plays a vital role. In Nepal we can find many industries in each cities of Nepal where Butwal is one of them.Butwal is also known as industrial centre.Dairy products, construction materials, micro hydro plastics, PVC pipes and electric materials among others are being produced from the industries located inside the area.

Khaseuli Bazaar

The Tinau river divides the new and old (Purano) bazaar while two suspension bridges, one located at Pulchok and the other located at Haat Bazaar, connect the new and old bazaar. Cross the river to visit Ganesh Mandir, Narayan Temple, Buddhist Monastery, and Padma Chaitya Vihar. The Monastery is busy during Buddha's Birthday known as `Buddha Jayanti', during which time, thousands of pilgrimage pouring into the Lumbini region also visit this Monastery.

Siddababa Temple

The temple is located 1 Km from Butwal, on the Siddhartha Highway to Tansen and Pokhara. Siddababa is the temple of Lord Shiva where you can visit this temple to worship and marriage ceremony and also to get an awesome view of the Tinau River. Being on the slope of Chure Hills, this religious spot is also regarded as resting place from where the flow of Tinau River could be seen very interesting. Many devotees come here to offer worship every morning especially on holidays. Stiff cliffs, green plants, the front hills and flapping of pigeons give a meditative atmosphere and a message of peace to the world.

Nuwakot Hill

There are many such places you can visit in Butwal and Nuwakot is one of them.Climb the Nuwakot Hill Top (890 meter), located at north east of Butwal. Get breathless views of Himalayan range including Macchapuchhre in North and views of the Lumbini and Terai region from Butwal to Bhairahawa.

Manimukunda Park

Visit Akhileshwor Mahadeva temple near the Manimukanda Park, a popular temple for praying and for holding marriage ceremonies.Manimukunda park is also known as Phoolbari.There are ruins and antiquities of the majestic palace of Manimukunda Sen an ancient Palpali King containing 6 large rooms as well as royal residence, administrative and fascinating scenic grandeur of Butwal,

Hill Park

Hill Park a beautiful place to enjoy. Here you can get park and small playground for childrens. Situated at a hill side of Deepnagar. Birendra Park

Visit weekly open markets (now open on Wednesday and Saturday) that takes place near the Park. During the Butwal Haat (Bazaar), witness the color of grains, seeds, vegetables and kitchen utensils and a crowd of people buying and selling. The park has abundant flowers and greenery garden, and is an ideal place for picnic and a favorite hangout destination for lovers.

Butwal

Butwal is known for commerce, industries and agriculture. It has Nepal's second largest horticulture business, and has more than one thousand industries and business enterprises employing over four thousand people according count 2058. The Tinau river waters Butwal's flat land, and many farmers use under-ground water system for drinking and supplying water to their farms. Many farmers here have embraced integrated farming, and schools and universities in this region continue to grow. Rice, Wheat, Bean, and Beaten Rice are popular agriculture product. Many of such product are equally imported from India and sold to major cities such as Kathmandu, Pokhara.

Location of Butwal

A small city of 69.28 square km in area, situated on the low-altitude flat-land (Terai) near the border side to India, is a home to one lakh eight thousands seven hundred fifty five Nepalese of different religion, language, ethinicity and identity. Butwal connects Bhairahawa city, Tansen town, and Narayanghat city through different highways. Butwal is only 26KM from the Indian Border and about 22 km from Bhairahawa, and Tansen is about 36 KM away from Butwal.

There is mutual co-relation among them.That is why Butwal is also rich in culture and traditons.

Historical Butwal

Butwal is one of the historical place of our country(Nepal). In the ancient time British attacked Butwal but King of Palpa "Manimukunda Sen" defeated them. On the other hand, our ancestors from deifferent places like Baglung, salyaan,pokhara,palpa etc . used to come over and exchange goods with salt. From this we know that Butwal is historically trade area.

Lumbini


I have dreamed about the Garden of Peace and Integrity. It is the place where no one bear selfish attitude. So, I find Lumbini as a place of Love and Peace. Lumbini is located in the south-central Terai of Nepal, situated in the foot hills of the Himalayas.

Nepal is a dreamland for tourists who visit frequently and experience exotic and accustomed beauty and also feel the diversity of nature and customs. As we provoke " Athiti Devo Bhawa" means guests are gods and goddesses who come for blessings to humanity, prosperity and glory. Lumbini is the place where Lord Buddha was born in 623 B.C. It retains legendary charm as beautiful garden and a piece of heaven on earth where one could see a splendid garden, embedded the stupas and monasteries. Lumbini is the place where people creed that divine blessings and love flow to come in peace. Large numbers of people from different countries either they are Hindus or Buddihists visits the place frequently. Mostly people from countries like India, Japan, China, Bhutan, Srilanka, Mayanmar, Indonesia, Maldives, Burma, Vietnam, Thailand etc. visit the place with great devotion and belief to bath in the sacred river of Peace and Love.
